Mark Bonner will lead Cambridge United through the 2021-2022 season after the club's chairman said the coach received a unanimous vote of confidence.

Chairman Shaun Grady said Coach Bonner is in lockstep concerning the development of the football club.

Bonner had been Cambridge United's interim coach. He is a former professional footballer himself after having played for Blackpool and Cardiff City as a midfielder.

He was born in  Ormskirk in Lancashire and attended Bishop Rawstorne Church of England Academy in Croston as a teenager.

The owner of Cambridge United, Paul Barry, is also pleased with Bonner's new contract as the owner says he believes the coach has "galvanized" the squad.

Barry said Bonner has stepped up in a way that made people take notice and feel pride in the club.

The process of recruitment took six weeks, but in the end, the club decided to stay with Mark Bonner for the next two years.
